Contender: Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich

Mat and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary of dating and our 1 month anniversary of marriage by eating at a sweet little diner that’s a local favorite in the valley.  It’s a cute little typical cable-car looking diner, and they make some good down home cookin’!  While this isn’t your typical buff chix entry, it was definitely in the same family, and this unique take on my fave wasn’t so out of bounds as to offend this buff chix connoisseur.

The menu says ” boneless chicken breast, dipped in buttermilk breadcrumbs, deep fried and tossed with Ruth’s honey sauce on a toasted ciabatta roll with bleu cheese coleslaw”.  No modifications necessary on this one!

The “honey sauce” was sweet and had a hint of spicy, though not as spicy as I usually go for.  The bleu cheese coleslaw was just weird enough to work.  It wasn’t overly mayo-y or crunchy, which are my usual turnoffs when it comes to coleslaw.  The bleu cheese wasn’t overpowering, but added a nice kick of flavor to an already interesting sandwich.  And let’s not get me started on how much I love ciabatta…

Overall, it just worked.  The flavors and textures blended together seamlessly, and the overall effect was a really pleasant and unique sandwich!

Portion: Just enough
