It was a beautiful spring day, so the co-workers and I decided to take a jaunt over to one of our favorite local eateries, Red Onion.  I was geared up for my typical tuna melt when the Daily Special caught my eye…

The menu says ”chicken breast, buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, provolone cheese and tomato grilled on ciabatta bread”.   How could I say no to a panini with my favorite fillings?  I decided to leave the ranch rather than substitute bleu cheese, and I obviously axed the red, seedy devil.  But wait, what’s this???  Upon inspecting my sandwich, I found there were pickles unceremoniously stuffed in there!  Those were definitely not advertised, and I frankly don’t see how they have any place in a buffalo chicken sandwich.  So off they came.

The sandwich was pressed nicely and toasted perfectly, and everything inside melted together well.  Provolone on buff chix is new for me, but I very much appreciated it.  It’s hard to beat provolone cheese in a panini situation -it’s melty and innocuous.  The buffalo sauce was appropriately spicy, and the ranch provided a cool little kick.  I barely missed the bleu cheese!  The chicken was soft and grilled up nicely, and there were no icky or gristly bits.  You’d be surprised how much one little icky spot in your meat can ruin a sandwich!

Overall, great sandwich from a neat little place where I am always a big fan of their sandwiches.  Just don’t lie about your pickles!
