Contender: Buffalo Mac & Cheese
It was my husband’s birthday, and he asked to celebrate at Buffalo Wild Wings. He also asked us not to embarrass him and cause a scene, but you can see how that worked out…
I’ve had good luck at B-Dubs, so I decided to go crazy and try their version of buff chix mac and cheese. The menu said: All the flavors you love. Crispy buffalo chicken with rich and creamy aged cheddar cheese sauce, over-baked with a crunchy breadcrumb topping.
Well, my good luck was bound to run out sometime. This dish just wasn’t that great. The buffalo chicken itself was fine – it was the boneless wings chopped up on top. But the mac & cheese left something to be desired. Rather than a cheesy, creamy sauce, the pasta was just sort of buttery and bland. There were some cheesy bits clustered throughout, but I would not classify it as “cheese sauce”. The crunch breadcrumbs were fine, but when I order mac and cheese, I’m interested in receiving both MAC and CHEESE, and this dish was sorely lacking in the latter.
So, the last time I reviewed a buffalo chicken mac and cheese dish, I loved the mac and cheese but didn’t love the buff chix part. This time, the buffalo chicken was on point (I’ve reviewed the boneless wings themselves before), but the mac and cheese not so much. If only I could combine these two, we might have a buffalo chicken macaroni revolution! Alas, it was not to be this time.
