I know this sounds crazy…or does it? Fried Chicken and Waffles is all the rage now – I’ve seen it (outside the south) in restaurants in trendy places like New York and California. But this is the first time I’ve seen the magical concept that is buffalo chicken brought into it. I was skeptical, but I obviously love buffalo chicken and I love waffles so…why not?
The menu says “Chicken Strips, Regular or Buffalo, Choice of Fries or Waffle”. As we were in a place called Chicken and Waffles, I thought it would only be appropriate to give that a shot. I was wondering if the chicken and waffle would go together, or if they would just be separately enjoyable. Either way, it couldn’t be bad.
I’m not sure about all waffles that come as a complement to chicken, but this one was excellent. It was batter-y and soft, with just a hint of sweet. I think if it was too sweet, it would have clashed with the buffalo, but this was just the perfect amount. The chicken was soft and melty and the combo just worked. They even had a side of blue cheese, which I only used a little bit of. I really enjoyed the flavor combo and the texture of just the buffalo chicken with waffle. I should note, I don’t care for maple syrup, so I did not use any of that either. Just the plain old chicken and waffle together was delightful. I really didn’t expect to like this as much as I did, so I’m glad I went out on a limb and tried it!
