Contender: Crispy Chicken Sandwich w/ Buffalo and Blue Cheese

Folks – here at my humble buffalo chicken blog, it gives me no pleasure to write bad reviews.  I’m not one of those snooty food bloggers who relishes in lambasting a restaurant because my caviar balls were irregularly shaped.  My purpose is to find and share delicious buffalo chicken inspired items.  When I have to write a bad review, it means that I wasted a perfectly good meal on something I didn’t really like.  And life is too short to waste on subpar meals.

But subpar is really the best way to describe this sandwich.  The menu states: Crispy chicken with Franks Red Hot Buffalo Sauce, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on an egg bun.  The “chicken” was more breading than chicken, and it was overcooked and even a bit burnt.  There may have been a tiny squirt of hot sauce on there, but it was imperceptible through the globs of mayonnaise.

Now, let’s talk about the cheese for a minute.  I’m a gal who knows her cheeses.  There was a moderate amount of crumbled cheese on this sandwich, but it was definitely not blue cheese.  It tasted more like goat cheese.  Now, I like goat cheese just fine, and it has its place and time.  But on my buffalo and BLUE CHEESE sandwich is not it!

The best part of this sandwich was the bun, which I’ll admit was soft and delicious just as an egg bun should be.  If I were just grading the bun, it would be an 8-level bun.  But as my loyal readers know, this is not just about the bun.  This sandwich was just a straight-up disappointment – I’m not going to mince words.  I’ll admit I didn’t have super high hopes, since I’ve tried Smashburgers in the past and found them to be just meh, but this was just a pitiful attempt at a buffalo chicken sandwich.
